I have spent a 10-year journalism career serving the public, as a newspaper writer, production editor, award-winning page designer, and new media editor.

In a recent investigative series, I uncovered mismanagement and violations of several Washington state laws and codes by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The series resulted in a governor-directed formal review of departmental policy and an apology from the agency's director for his actions.

Today, as a Master's of Public Administration candidate at the University of Washington's pretigious Evans School of Public Affairs, I am developing the economic, management, financial, statistical, and political tools to become a fiercer and more effective advocate of pubic interests.

Shortly after beginning the MPA program in September 2009, I was elected to represent my program's first-year students as a senator for UW's Graduate and Professional Student Senate, where I have worked as a grassroots organizer to lobby for higher-education funding and to improve conditions for student-parents.
